Fatima XC Invitational. Results

Over the hills and through the woods to Fatima High School we go.  This Saturday the Strafford XC team traveled to Westphalia, MO to participate in the Fatima High School XC invitational located on the grounds of the Knights of Columbus Hall.  The running warriors faced some stiff competition from the likes of Fatima, Linn, and Blair Oaks but were able to persevere and turn in some impressive finishes on what proved to be a tough day of running.

Varsity Girls: Ashley Wilks and Katlyn Hatz once again led the way for the lady running warriors by setting a steady pace in the first half and some gutsy performances in the 2nd half.  Packing in the next three slots were Melania Schrag, who is having a great 2nd half of the season, and our two freshman Kari Reed and Baylee Hutchinson.  Rounding out the team was Ryleigh Askren and Lindsey Hutchinson.  What proved to be a tough battle with perennial foes Blair Oaks the girls were able to edge the Oaks into 2nd place and bring home the 1st place plaque.

Varsity Boys:  The varsity boys faced their toughest competition of the year in the likes of Linn and Fatima, both teams are very serious state contenders.   Following a late afternoon start & a restart to the race the boys struggled to find their pace and their marks.   As the race progressed the boy’s team showed a lot of heart and fought back and ran hard and at the end was able to secure a third place team finish.  Linn and Fatima were 1st and 2nd with 6th other teams behind Strafford.

Junior Varsity Boys:  The JV boys also put on an impressive display of running on Saturday with Zach Reid and Justin Bond leading the way.  Zach was able to post a time of 19:39 and finish 2nd in the JV race. Justin Bond also PR’d with a time of 20:06 and a third place finish.  The JV team was also able to place 3rd which is always exciting to see for the future.

This invitational was a great opportunity for our runners to see the district course and get an idea of the competition they will be facing next Saturday.  Things are looking very good for some exciting races next Saturday.

Blind Cross Country Runner Uses Guide Dog During Races – inspirational article about a high school cross country athlete who uses a guide dog to help her during the race.  In her words:

“I don’t run for time or place or anything. I run because I love it,” she said.

Parents and Runners,
Here is the schedule for the next couple of weekends.  Both races are in Westphalia, MO.  The name of the high school is Fatima and the races are held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Hwy 63 north of town.  I plan on going to Jefferson City then turning southeast because I think the roads will be better.  You may want to google map it or GPS and decide for yourself which route works best for you.  I do know that there is no straight way to get there.  Best of Luck.

Results for: Fordland Iron Mountain Cross Country Invitational October 18th, 2011

It was another stunning day of running for the Strafford Cross Country team at the Fordland Iron Mountain invitational.  The kids did an amazing job tackling a tough course on a cool October day and was able to put together some amazing races.  Team Results are as follows:

Jr. High Girls:  McKenzi Maples finished first overall in the jr. high race to lead the jr. high girls to a first place team finish.  Out of 10 medals awarded the Strafford jr. high girls brought home 6 of the medals.

Jr. High Boys: Shane Burns led the jr. high boys to a first place team victory by placing first at the Fordland Iron Mtn. invitational.  Out of 10 medals awarded the jr. high boys were able to bring home 5 medals.

Varsity Girls: The Strafford Lady Indians cross country team is still proving that they can put together a great run and compete as a team.  The girls faced a tough course and a tough competition with the Springfield Catholic girls in attendance.  Our ladies ran a great race pushing the pace and competing as a team.  Katlyn Hatz and Ashley Wilks led the way with a 3rd and 4th place finish followed by an 8,9,10,11 finish from Melania Schrag, Lindsey & Baylee Hutchinson, and Kari Reed.  This type of pack running will prove valuable in the future.  Overall, all 8 out of 9 girls brought home medals and the 2nd place team trophy finishing just 6 points behind Springfield Catholic.

Varsity Boys:  The high school boys continue to get better and push each other to excel.  Led by Zach Kellner and Jackson Eicken the boys were able to best Hollister and bring home the first place plaque.  Dylan Goodin, Jacob Eckhardt,  Josh Avers, and Anthony Gott were able to pack up and push each other to score some very low points.  Anthony Gott ran to a personal best of 19:08.

Excellent job to all the runners and let’s stay hungry, stay disciplined, and stay humble leading up to districts.
