MLC Meet @ Fellows Lake Thursday

Posted: October 10, 2016 in Uncategorized

Runners & Superfans,

This Thursday the Strafford cross country team will be hosting the Mid-Lakes Conference cross country meet at Fellows Lake.  We are looking for volunteers to help make the meet a success and was hoping you could help us out.  Much like our invitational we will need help with parking and buses as well as registration and finish line work.  The best part is, instead of 25 schools it will only be 6.  We will only have 3 races with a lot fewer kids and it should all be very quick and easy.

Should you be willing to help we will need you to be at Fellows Lake at around 2:30 p.m.  The races are starting a little earlier than usual due to the sun setting earlier.  Please let me know if you can help.

Students will ride a bus from school out to the lake but will need to be picked up at Fellows Lake after their race:  Middle school will be completed by 3:40, high school boys by 4:30, & high school girls by 5:30.  I will not have a way to bus any of the Strafford runners back to school so please make arrangements ahead of time.  This is also the last race for jr. high.

Race Schedule:

3:00 pm Coaches Meeting. In the pavilion
3:20 pm Middle School boys and girls.
3:50 pm High School Boys race
4:40 pm High School Girls Race.
5:30 pm Awards.

Thanks for the help and we look forward to seeing you on Thursday

Runners & Superfans,

Here is a break down of what is happening with Strafford cross country this week.

Tuesday 9/27 – Lamar Invitational @ Lamar Country Club. High School only and no jr. high practice on Tuesday.

Students will be released from class at 1:15 to board the bus and can expect to arrive back to SHS around 9 p.m.  Parents and superfans should know that we are going to this meet to preview the course only and will not be racing.  I know this may sound unconventional for most sports but I want the kids to have some good legs for the Chile Pepper on Saturday and racing on Tuesday would be to much.  The varsity boys will be running as a group with set times for each mile, this will mimic our normal practice on Tuesdays. Runners riding  back on the bus will stop for some food on the way home so they should budget some money accordingly.  We also have plenty of snacks for before and after the race so that will not be necessary.

Varsity girls 4:50

Varsity boys 5:30

JV Boys & Girls 6:00

Saturday October 1st Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival Fayetville Arkansas. High School Only

Bus leaves SHS at 6:45 am

  • Senior High Boy’s “El Caliente” (Varsity-5K) 11:00 a.m.
  • Senior High Girl’s “El Caliente” (Varsity-5K) 11:30 a.m.
  • Senior High Boy’s Open (5K) 12:15 pm.
  • Senior High Girl’s Open (5K)  1:00 p.m.
  • Awards – Senior High School 1:45 p.m.

Bus will return to SHS around 5:30 p.m.  We will call when we know the exact time.

Runners should eat a nutritious breakfast and dress for the weather.  Food is provided at the race and we will also be stopping for some great wood fired pizza on the way home (cross country’s treat).  Runners and superfans may want to bring some money for chile pepper merchandise which is usually very cool and available for purchase.  Hope you can join us and come enjoy one of the most exciting meets of the year.

In celebration of a great year of running the cross country team is inviting all runners and their families to join us at Silver Dollar City for “Run to the Lights 5K” benefiting the Caring People.  The team will take a bus after school, eat at McDonalds, have fun at SDC from 6pm-9pm and then run a 5K in the park & through the lights.  It will be a late night and students should plan on being home after midnight.
