big mommas moonshine beach Volkslauf

Runners & Superfans,

Cross country camp was a huge success and I would like to thank all those kids and alumni who attended. We had 45 runners attend camp making it one of our biggest. Even with typhoon Bill reaking havoc we were able to get in a great week of running. I encourage all those who attended to keep up their summer training and come in to fall with a great base of miles.

We finished the week with the Volkslauf 10k at Ft. Leonard Wood and it was awesome.

Have a great summer

For your reading enjoyment:

Twas the Night Before the Race

Twas the night before the race and all through the state,
Runners were carb loading, hoping for a great pace.
Their race day clothes were hung with such care,
Along with the spikes, watches and bibs all there.

The many weeks of training were not very fun,
Hill repeats, fartleks and long runs were done.
Hydration intake has all been perfected,
Thankfully no major pains were detected.

When race day arrives runners will fill the meet,
And into their boxes they eagerly retreat.
Setting their watches, as they run through the start,
We bid them all a good race admiring their dedication and heart.

As miles pass by they run with all their might,
Parents and superfans were a very welcome sight.
The crowds were all cheering and having a good time,
Giving the runners cheers all down the line.

When what to their wondering eyes should appear?
But the finish line with gleaming medals ever so near.
Endorphins are dancing all around in their heads,
It’s time for celebrations and then straight to bed.

May your running always be such a wonderful delight,
Happy running to all and to all a good night!

District XC Results

Posted: November 3, 2014 in Uncategorized

Runners & Superfans,

Wanted to let everyone know how amazing the team did at districts this weekend and congratulate all the kids on their success this year.

The boys qualified again this year with a 2nd place finish at districts.  Just 6 points behind the winner Springfield Catholic the boys ran a tremendous race. Here are their times and results:

Shane Burns – 2nd  time of 16:38 pr and new school record

Jacob Clements – 6th time of 16:57 pr

Matt Barrett-Young – 7th time of 17:02 pr

Bradley Lee – 15th time of 17:47

Trevor Roebke – 17th time of 18:03

Jacob Davis – 22nd time of 18:11 pr

Justin Bond – 31st time of 19:04

Congratulations as well to the girls who fought hard all year long just to keep a team together and who lost a heart breaker of a race on Saturday. Just 4 points separated Strafford from Blue Eye and the trip to state.  With just 5 girls to work with all year, they stuck together and ran with guts all year and I am very proud of each one of them.

On the bright side, McKenzi Maples ran an amazing race and brought home the individual girls district championship for Strafford with a time of 20:19.  Fighting off Catholic’s Anna Galigos,  Mckenzi took the lead half way through the race and never looked back.  Huge kudos also to Kari Reed who has had an outstanding season of running all year and showed it on Saturday by qualifying for state at 8th place in a time of 22:01.

Wish us luck next Saturday as we put are training to the test at the state meet in Jefferson City.  Thanks to all the parents and superfans who have supported us all year;  I know I appreciate everything you do and the kids definitely love the snacks.

Thanks for making cross country a proud tradition at Strafford High School.

Runners & Superfans,
The cross country team had a great day of running at the University of Arkansas’s Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetville, AR. I know I can not express the shear magnitude of this event in this article, but please know that this was the most epic cross country meet we have ever attended. The varsity boys race had 75 teams and over 500 runners. The starting line alone was amazing and the speed of the race was just as awesome. The top 27 boys in the race ran sub 16 for the 5k. The girl’s race was just as impressive with a huge field and the top girls running sub 18 for the 5K. As for Strafford, we may not have been at the top but the results were still great. Of the 22 runners who represented Strafford 22 set personal records, which may make this the single best day of running for SHS.
Special congratulations to Shane Burns who broke the school record with a time of 16:46.8, breaking the old record of 16:51 held by Zach Cobb.

Hopefully, I get the results pasted in below. These kids ran crazy fast.
